Hey, Annie here. Today, I am going to talk about a few scents that transformed my life for the better. There are countless benefits to burning incense, but what about the specific benefits to burning certain scents?
I'm going to cover the ways a few scents helped me out in a profound way. I'm sure that I'm not alone in my experience. In other words, if it can help me, then it can help you too!
Aromatherapy can ease anxiety, depression, and even clear your skin. Read on to read about the role that aromatherapy played in my healing journey.
A few years ago I got really sick...
- I moved in with my parents for four months.
- I lost over twenty pounds in a short amount of time.
- I couldn't walk more than a few steps without fainting from dehydration.
- Doctors did not know what was wrong.
- I was in severe pain.
Not only was I sick and physically suffering, I was afraid! Let me tell you about a few scents that took the edge off!
Because I spent all of my time in my bed, I had a hard time falling asleep at night. This is not surprising because I barely got any exercise during the day.
My mom was curious about the benefits of aromatherapy, so she put a diffuser in my room. Incense cones or incense burners would probably have worked even better!
The scent of lavender helped me to relax. I spent a lot of my time worrying about my symptoms, but after a short amount of time breathing in the scent of lavender, I was in a state of relaxation.
Before I knew it, I drifted off into a deep sleep.
I did not end up using apple scent in my diffuser, but I wish that I did! The scent of apple is known to reduce headaches and migraines.
Not only that, it is said to reduce anxiety. You've heard the saying, "An apple per day keeps the doctor away," right? There is something medicinal and healing about this crisp fruit.
I have heard testimonials from my friends who have crippling migraines about the benefit of apple scents. They're huge apple scent advocates.
I was afraid that the smell of apple would make me hungry (and digestion was my issue), so I avoided it. It turns out that the scent of apple actually causes a decrease in appetite though!
It could have helped me out, as I had a lot of tension headaches during that period in my life.
The ocean is where I seek solace and comfort. Whenever I smell the ocean breeze, I think about tumbling around Jersey shore as a child or surfing in Santa Cruz, California. It brings back positive memories.
Due to the strong connection between smells and memories, I was able to distract myself from the pain a bit with ocean scents. It took me right back to the coast.
Soon, I was daydreaming about seashells and peaking waves. I encourage anyone who is struggling with physical pain or grief, to try aromatherapy.
If you love the beach, ocean scents can serve as a great distraction. Instead of focusing on the pain at hand, you may be able to take a lovely trip to the beach... who doesn't love the ocean?
When I smell rose, I feel comforted. I'm not sure if a close family member wore rose perfume and I associate it with warm feelings. Or, maybe it's something about the medical benefits of the plant extract.
For whatever reason, I can't get enough of this smell! I began a self-care ritual and included the scent of rose into my routine. I wanted to smell it at least twice per day.
I noticed that breathing in this beautiful rose scent elevated my mood. It put my mind at ease, helped quell my anxieties, and gave me a bit more self-confidence.
When it comes to the smell of rose, it did wonder for my mental health! I highly recommend including the scent or rose into your regular self-care routine. The easiest way would probably be to get a rose incense cone!
Did any of these scents help relieve my gastro-intestinal symptoms? Well, no. But I felt better equipped to handle all of the secondary symptoms that this illness brought on - headaches, sleeplessness, and a whole lot of anxiety.
When you feel scared about what the future holds and feel physical and emotional pain in ever moment, you need a way out. Not only that, you deserve one. You owe it to yourself to experiment with aromatherapy. If it can help me, it can definitely help all of you!
